Vince Gilligan Reveals He Knows How Pluribus Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind did not foresee that the Apple TV+ show would become a breakout success. “God bless the fans,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me overjoyed.”

With the first season of the acclaimed sci-fi show wrapping up—and Season 2 already in development—the writers' room opened up about the viewer reception and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and audience predictions about Pluribus. The creator is doing his best to avoid both.

“It's like being an endless supply of hot fudge sundaes and being tickled to death,” he explains. “It's wonderful, but I hear about it through word of mouth, and that's on purpose. Never in my life searched for my own name online, nor do I ever plan to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would disappear down and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from the hardware store and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no way to avoid the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“We don't try to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“Better to keep our focus on the work,” he chimes in.

The Central Mystery: Has the showrunner Have a Plan for the Ending of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will ultimately end? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We've developed some potential directions about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan says. “yet we stand ready to throw out a decent plan for a superior concept. That has held us in well on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I imagine we will be doing that.”

On the other hand, if they hit a wall, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll zoom out in the finale and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, one could always use the classics?

“My dream is Carol to open her eyes next to Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on the streaming service.
