The Lionesses v the Chinese team – Female Exhibition Fixture

Overview

Greetings and welcome to the friendly fixture between the English side and the Chinese squad at Wembley Stadium. This promises to be an exciting contest with the reigning European champions competing against the current Asian Cup champions.

England’s national stadium is packed for the occasion, which will see Fran Kirby celebrated pre-match after her departure from the England squad before the European Championship this past summer.

Squad announcements will be shared imminently, but there was a late squad update for England. On Friday, the goalkeeper Khiara Keating withdrew from the squad with a minor injury, and so previous starter Ellie Roebuck has been summoned.

With Hannah Hampton unavailable, it will be interesting to see who head coach Sarina Wiegman selects in goal. That news and all the other updates are coming up before the start of the match at 5:30 in the evening GMT.

Squad Updates

The lineups have been announced. Anna Moorhouse starts in goal for England in the absence of Hannah Hampton and Khiara Keating.

England's starting eleven: Moorhouse, Bronze, Charles, Walsh, Le Tissier, Morgan, Mead, Stanway, Russo, Toone, Hemp.

Substitutes: Hings, Baggaley, Kendall, Wubben-Moy, Beever-Jones, Kelly, Kearns, Park, Blindkilde Brown, Roebuck, Clinton, Denton, Fisk, Godfrey.

I am searching for the squad from China now; as soon as I have it, I will share it.

Captaincy Update

Keira Walsh is serving as captain for the Lionesses with Leah Williamson still sidelined. These were her comments before this clash:

First Cap News

This evening’s match will be Anna Moorhouse’s first appearance for England. She belonged to the Euros team who won this past summer, but she remained on the bench with Hannah Hampton in the starting goalkeeper role.
