Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option mirrors the standard Breakthrough format but features a few notable adjustments:
In short, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it provides additional choices for players looking for different methods to enjoy the game. But, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are upset.
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states one reply to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says another. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are going with this title," and someone else details all the issues they consider to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this title all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
All that said, there are constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, even against bots, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist seems like the community compromising halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
If Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with Battlefield 6, it is that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Tasks that were overly hard were adjusted rapidly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
