LeBron James's Legendary Point-Scoring Run Comes to a Close, Yet Los Angeles Secure Win Over Raptors.

The Lakers star knew his incredible streak of reaching double digits was in danger. At the decisive instant, however, it was not his focus.

The right decision involved passing the ball – so he did. Following that play, the legendary streak was over.

LeBron's unprecedented run of 1,297 consecutive regular-season double-digit scoring performances was snapped on Thursday night, as the league's career points king finished with a mere eight points in the Los Angeles Lakers' 123-120 win against the Toronto Raptors. He delivered the decisive pass, feeding Rui Hachimura to knock down a three-point shot as time expired.

“None,” James stated when asked about the streak ending. “We won.”

A Selfless Play Secures Victory

He might have attempted to win the contest – and preserved the streak – in the closing seconds, yet he opted to pass to Hachimura on the wing. Hachimura made the shot, and James raised his arms with his hands in the air.

You have to play the game the right way. You always make the correct play,” James remarked. That has always been my M.O.. That is the way I was instructed the game. I’ve done that my whole career.”

James is acutely aware of his point total he's scored at all times,” commented the team's head coach JJ Redick. “He did it like he’s done throughout his career.”

The Run's Final Moments

James re-entered the contest for the final time at under five and a half minutes to go, the win and the streak up for grabs. He had only six points from a 3-for-15 performance by that point.

He got a bucket with under two minutes remaining to level the contest then missed a 14-footer at 1:01 left that would have taken him to double digits.

He passed up a subsequent shot – though the opportunity was there. Austin Reaves passed him the ball with a few seconds left, yet LeBron chose to dish it off instead.

“The basketball gods, if you do it the right way, they tend to bless you,” the coach concluded.

A Look Back at a Staggering Record

James's streak commenced over eighteen years ago. It stood as the longest streak of its kind in NBA history: MJ previously held a streak of 866 consecutive games with 10+ points, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar recorded 787 such games, and The Mailman recorded of 575 games.

LeBron is such an unselfish player,” remarked Lakers center a fellow Laker.

He simply plays the sport. He could have shot but due to who he is on the court and just who he is as an individual, he executed the pass, dished to Hachimura and claimed the game.”

Getting to ten points had typically been an afterthought long before the final period. Throughout his run, he had reached double figures by the start of the fourth on the vast majority of occasions before this game.

But two of those unusual games below ten points through three quarters had occurred in the last week: He recorded nine entering the final quarter versus the Mavericks on 28 November, then had six points before the fourth quarter against Phoenix earlier in the week.

He succeeded in extend the streak against the Suns. In the following contest, it concluded – yet he was celebrating all the same.

I only ever make the right play. That is instinctive, win, lose or draw,” James declared. When you make the right play, the game gods consistently returning the favor.”
