The City of Angels witnessed widespread celebrations after the Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-game World Series title. Fans worldwide united with Angelenos in jubilation, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a franchise has achieved consecutive championships.
Los Angeles area events included a procession through the city center on the morning of the parade, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Social media videos depict countless of Angelenos flooding city center avenues, many displaying homemade signs and Dodger flags. The squad was seen traveling proudly on a open-top bus through the crowds, hoisting the championship trophy proudly.
“My focus is already about the next championship we’re going to do this,” the star player stated through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at the stadium, where the team walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and the artist cruising a light blue vintage Cadillac around the field.
Celebrations began well before the parade, with supporters setting off fireworks in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, named the MVP of the championship, commented plainly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” Yamamoto said. “I love the Dodgers. I love Los Angeles.”
In contrast, the team owner received a cooler welcome at the celebration. Recordings from the gathering appear to show him taking the stage to a combination of applause and jeers, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The World Series acted as a positive moment in what has been a challenging year for Los Angeles. An approximate quarter-million people attended to the championship parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, supporters this year showed as much if not more enthusiasm.
“It seems it’s nearly twice from last year,” he remarked. “The supporters are incredible. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
