Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, remarked that returning someday remains an option. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-season tenure which brought Champions League success and the Reds’ first league title in 30 years, has since taken on positions in a global football capacity with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity to Germany's league body.
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, though countless followers holding him in high esteem would welcome the notion that he may eventually return. In a wide-ranging interview, he shared with his interviewer: “I declared I refuse to lead any other side on English soil. Which implies should it be the Reds...absolutely. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“At 58 years old, so I could make the decision in a few years, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, I don’t have to do that. I can just see what lies ahead.”
When asked about what circumstances would need to occur to bring him back to the dugout, he revealed he feels no immediate pull toward coming back. “I don’t even know exactly, My present work fulfills me,” he commented. “No longing for management; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I'm glad to skip media briefings repeatedly each week or doing numerous chats a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad enjoying conversation, is pleasant. Success was frequent meaning regularly a very good mood around the place. Remaining with me is Van Dijk's laughter vividly recalled as an instance.”
He commended of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes that won the league last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion it could be the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if spoken against. A remarkable prospect. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong balanced team. Fans shouldn't fret over the club, things will improve.”
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of the Portuguese star, a player he signed while in charge, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international was killed in a car crash alongside his brother this past summer.
“How do you replace such an individual? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I can’t imagine the team environment without him in it. Putting it into words is tough regarding this. A profound tragedy for his teammates also. Not a single person would cite it as an excuse yet it's the reality. Entering the changing area which he filled completely. Dealing with that individually is not easy. Unbearable.”
