JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution Seeks to Resolve the Anime's Biggest Issue

JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution isn't exactly an brand-new movie. Rather, the recent film from the Jujutsu Kaisen supernatural series serves as a collection of the show's sophomore season merged with the opening installments of its third season, which launches the Culling Games arc from the manga series. This makes Execution, which recently received a new trailer, the earliest way to watch the start of the forthcoming season ahead of its premiere in early 2026. The film debuts in cinemas in Japan starting November 7, and in the United States and Canada on December 5.

The Culling Games Storyline

In the Culling Games plot, Special Grade sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu makes his entrance into the television series and is assigned by jujutsu higher-ups to execute his classmate Yuji Itadori. Their highly anticipated battle unfolds for the initial time on the cinema screen, and if the artists at the production house have something as special as installments 40 and 41 prepared for viewers this festive season, JuJutsu Kaisen: Execution may turn out to be the gift that everyone has hoped for.

The Thunderclap Issue

"Thunderclap" from season two is widely regarded as a top-tier scene in anime history, despite the major issues in last year when the series first premiered. It was claimed that the creators were facing tight schedules to the point, and the final version that aired at the time was unfinished and reportedly not what the animators initially intended.

The Intense Confrontation

The episode involves a much-hyped confrontation between two strong jujutsu users, the King of Curses and the Eight-Handled Sword. It includes unique visual techniques, masterful camera work, and intense action. A follow-up Blu-ray release provided an opportunity to insert new moments to expand the battle. So it seemed possible Execution could enhance the fight further. However, examining the new trailer, it's hard to tell if that battle has undergone further polishing. It'd be a disappointment if it was not, because a scene of that magnitude has to be watched on the cinema screen with the best presentation possible.

The Second Season's Triumph

The second installment of JuJutsu Kaisen propelled the series to become 2024's anime of the year, and when episodes 40 and 41 were aired consecutively, it was the focus of attention for an extended period in the anime community. Audiences were aware of the problems with the production, which made them value what they witnessed even more. People eagerly awaited to see if the home release, made available on March 18, would feature extra content to the battle or to see if it was refined somewhat, and were elated to see just that, alongside reshades, more motion, and revised visual style.

The Film's Potential

But the home video can only touch up what has previously shown in the television version, whereas the cinematic experience has the chance to properly present the moment with more adjustments and completely new animated sequences.

A Magnum Opus

Currently, these two episodes serve as the pinnacle of JuJutsu Kaisen, and should be handled with care by the studio, particularly given the issues they faced at the time. It's drawn the focus of anime fans all over the globe, and the Culling Games storyline is a much-expected plotline of the following year. If the studio wants to start the year off right, run back the series' best moment once again in cinemas with the best interpretation we've seen yet.
