Disaster Hits as Accidental Blast at Police Station in Kashmir Region Under Indian Control Claims Nine Fatalities

A devastating blast at a police station in the Kashmir region under Indian control has led to the fatalities of nine individuals and injuries to thirty-two others, according to authority reports.

The incident happened when a collection of seized explosive materials unintentionally detonated during processing activities.

Timeline of Incidents

The detonation happened on Friday night at the Nowgam security post, where blast substances seized from Faridabad region in the northern territory of Haryana state were being kept briefly.

Local security director announced that the detonation substances were pending scientific analysis when a "extremely tragic" mishap during processing resulted in their explosion at approximately 11:20 PM local.

Official Statements

Law enforcement officials confirmed that this was an "inadvertent blast" and as opposed to a militant action. "Different conjectures regarding the cause of this occurrence is unnecessary," highlighted the police chief during a journalist meeting.

The police station experienced severe damage from the detonation, with neighboring structures also being influenced by the powerful blast.

Aftermath and Victims

Several automobiles were "engulfed in flames and reduced to charred husks, with wreckage spread across the location," according to police accounts.

"The intensity of the blast was so powerful that some human remains were recovered from close-by residences, approximately 100-200 metres away the security post," stated an official source.

The bulk of the casualties were law enforcement personnel, along with technical investigation team, two investigative imaging experts, and a garment worker who was present with the personnel.

Government Reaction

The region's Administrative Head stated commiserations and announced that an investigation had been commissioned into the catastrophic occurrence.

"I have commissioned a investigation to ascertain the reason of the inadvertent detonation. Deeply anguished by the loss of precious lives due to exceptionally devastating inadvertent detonation at Nowgam law enforcement facility in Srinagar city. My condolences to the mourning loved ones. I hope for speedy recovery of the injured," wrote the authority on social media.
