At least 36,000 Sudanese citizens have escaped following capture of El Fasher to Rapid Support Forces, states UN agency

In excess of 36,000 individuals have fled Sudan's Kordofan territory east of Darfur starting Saturday, as stated by the UN's migration agency.

The key central region connecting the country's Darfur regions and the Khartoum-Riverine area has during recent weeks become the latest battleground in the extended civil war between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary forces.

Significant Evacuation Statistics

An calculated 36,825 people fled five areas in North Kordofan region between 26 October and 31 October, according to the International Organization for Migration.

The people, most on foot, moved toward Tawila, a town west of El Fasher that is currently accommodating more than 652,000 displaced people.

Heightened Military Presence

Citizens of North Kordofan on Monday noted a heavy surge in both RSF and army presence across towns and villages throughout the state.

Both military groups are competing for control of El Obeid, the North Kordofan provincial capital and a important strategic and command center that links Darfur to Khartoum.

"Today, all our forces have assembled at the Bara front here," said an RSF member in a recently shared video declaration.

Regional Inhabitants Describe Protection Issues

A area citizen of Um Smeima, located west of El Obeid, reported that the quantity of RSF vehicles had grown substantially since the group's takeover of El Fasher.

"We discontinued traveling to our farms, fearing clashes," the local explained.

Another resident, who sought confidentiality for security reasons, also indicated that "there has been a big increase in army vehicles and weapons west and south of El Obeid" over the past two weeks.

World Alarms and Calls

A senior UN official raised the alarm last week about "extensive crimes" and "ethnically motivated reprisals" by RSF in Bara.

The diplomat cautioned about patterns similar to those in Darfur, where RSF militants have been alleged to commit mass killings, sexual violence and abductions against certain racial groups.

The church leader on Sunday appealed for an immediate ceasefire and the creation of relief routes in Sudan, declaring that attacks on civilians and obstacles to humanitarian aid "are creating unacceptable suffering."

Sudan's official envoy to Egypt on Sunday accused RSF of perpetrating war crimes in El Fasher and stated that the Sudanese government would not engage with the armed faction.

The diplomat further urged the global community to designate the group as a terrorist group.
