Arne Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat

Arne Slot acknowledged that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his future following another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their ninth loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst streak after being relegated in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of backing from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it is normal that people question you.”

He continued, “I accept my situation. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with Club Management

Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They are supportive to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Issues and Squad Response

Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely wasted chances and conceding too easily.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Truthfully, I do not. I’m saying that to all,” Jones stated.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a spell like this with outcomes like these.”

Jones concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”

“We will attempt to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
